Breaking The Silence

I'm feeling somewhat subdued today, yesterday Kavan had to go for a hearing test in the Audiology department because despite my efforts he is not talking yet. To be fair he only turned 2 at the end of September and although I'm not overly worried it is starting to make me wonder, is there a problem?

Dont get me wrong Kavan CAN say the odd few words, he just chooses not to. I don't know if its laziness or something medical. It all started when we went for his 2 year check up, the lady asked me heaps of questions, can he do this and does he do that. It was a mixed bag really, I found that from her questions it made me realise that actually he can do more than I thought he could which was nice, the one thing that was apparent was his lack of chatter.

Its a strange feeling, the results from the appointment were all fine, he heard all of the noises as responded accordingly, they checked inside his ears and he does have a bit of congestion on each due to the cold he has just got over. This is OK and normal so they will see us again in January. Im hoping by then he will be speaking! I feel a bit...... incomplete. I have friends with children more or less the same age as Kavan and they are singing the Frozen theme tune! Yes,Yes I know all children are different, the all develop at different times and often boys are known to be lazier than girls but I honestly long to hear his voice. Sounds melodramatic and ridiculous I know and I'm sure so many mothers will respond with something like, ' Make the most of it ' ' Once he starts he won't stop!'. This is probably true but I do long to chat with my toddler, and I think it will do him the world of good to be able to communicate with us and actually tell us what he wants!

Im going to try a multitude of ideas that I have picked up from other mums and yes, i admit it, Pinterest!

Flash Cards, giving him options, singing songs and even counting objects are all on the agenda. Follow our progress, if any of it works I will be sure to sing and dance about it.

Nutty for Nutmeg

So I think its safe to say Winter is here! I took my puppy, Teddy out this morning as it was my turn to do the breakfast run and I swear my whole body nearly seized up! As we know with Winter comes Flu season and my Son, Kavan was hit with a terrible cold and now one of those horrible post cold rattling coughs.

Armed with everything from a bowl of hot steaming water, vapour rub, lavender rub, tissues, oh and a large jar of honey I've been trying to help him out for days now so like any concerned but resourceful (if I do say so myself) parent I took to the web!

I just adore Pinterest, I must admit I am guilty of Pinning recipes and ideas that I forget exist but regardless I was on a mission to see if there was a remedy out there that I didn't know about. Success!
I found a lovely recipe for Nutmeg Milk, not a popular sore throat drink I know but I read somewhere that Nutmeg helps you sleep. Honestly I have never used or bought Nutmeg in my life so I was pleased to see Asda had it reasonably priced. The kitchen smelt amazing very warm and Christmassy (Now I get the Nutmeg, Christmas connection!)

Im not going to fool you into thinking that as soon as the bottle touched my sons lips he fell into a deep slumber, I wish! However he certainly fell asleep a lot quicker than he usually does, the real test will be if it magically makes him sleep through the night, if he does I think I will bottle this liquid and sell it at playgroup!

The recipe is below..... Enjoy!

2 cups of milk ( any kind but I used Almond)

Pinch of Ground Ginger

Pinch of Ground Cloves

1/4 teaspoon of Cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon of Nutmeg

Warm the milk and just whisk in the ingredients!

Strain if required.

Back to Blogging

I'm back Bloggers! I've been absent from the blogging world for nearly a year! You may remember me as My Mums Shoes,.... Unfortunately I've had a bit of a Google melt down and cant remember my logins so I've had to re-invent myself and now I'm back with My Silver Lining.

While I've been away I've set up my own Marketing and Promotions Business, The Silver lining Agency, the name Silverlining comes from mine and my husbands dream from nearly 6 years ago. We always said if and when we took the self employment plunge all our ventures would go under Silver lining, its a husband & wife thing.

It feels good to be back, My son Kavan is now a strong willed 2 year old who enjoys climbing on my new sofa and torturing his mother with his unwillingness to speak. So the blogs of being a mother and running a business are back with recipe's thrown in and the occasional parental rant.

Watch this space for 12 days of Christmas and Cinnamon scented tree decorations.....
